Torrent Bay to Falls River:
- At Torrent Bay, with the sea behind you, walk to your right and follow the orange markers to meet the main Abel Tasman Coast Track heading north to Bark Bay. Please note there are private properties in Torrent Bay, keep to the public track as signposted.
- The track begins with a steady climb through lush coastal forest, passing through tall rimu, kānuka, and mānuka trees. Listen for native birds like tūī and pīwakawaka flitting through the canopy.
- The track sidles around two valleys, opening to beautiful views over the inlet before reaching the Falls River, the largest river in the park. Cross the 47-metre suspension bridge, a highlight of the walk and great spot for a photo.
Falls River to Bark Bay:
- Beyond the bridge, the track meanders through mixed podocarp and broadleaf forest, where rātā, miro, and kahikatea tower above a fern-filled forest floor.
- As you near Bark Bay, take the short side track to the lookout, a peaceful spot with sweeping coastal views and Māori carvings (pou).
- From here, the trail gently descends through coastal bush to the golden sands of Bark Bay, where you’ll finish your walk and enjoy your lunch beside the lagoon or beach.

FAQS
-
Where can we get drinking water?
There is no filtered drinking water in the park. All campsites have water; however, this water must be boiled or treated. Water in the camp sites is piped from streams and is unsafe for consumption. Use only safe water (e.g. boiled, treated, filtered) for drinking, brushing teeth etc. In this regard Giardia is the main concern. There is filtered water at our base.
-
Can I buy food and drink in the Abel Tasman National Park?
If your trip requires you to bring your own food we recommend purchasing this before you get to Marahau. We do sell a few small snack items and drinks. There is a small store in Marahau but the nearest supermarket is in Motueka. Check your confirmation or trip description to see the food requirements for the tour you have selected. Food suggestions can also be found here.
-
Are there toilets in the park?
Yes, these are regularly cleaned and restocked with paper by park staff.
-
Can I take my camera or phone?
Yes, we have camera cases to keep cameras dry.

What our customers say
We joined the Earth, Sea and Sky Tour with Abel Tasman Kayaks and it was one of the absolute highlights of our time in New Zealand. The combination of kayaking along the stunning coastline and hiking through lush forest and golden beaches is the perfect way to experience the diversity of Abel Tasman National Park.
From the start, everything was incredibly well organised. The kayaking equipment was top quality, the communication clear and the vibe relaxed yet professional. Our guide Henri was fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the area, which really added to the experience.
We couldn’t have asked for a better way to explore this special part of New Zealand. If you're looking for a mix of active adventure and natural beauty, this is the tour for you. Highly recommended!

Great way to explore the Abel Tasman National Park, it's a shame that the weather didn't allow us to the kayak part, but it was replaced by a great taxi ride back passing through the seals and split apple rock... The guides were great and super helpful!

Earth, sea and sky is the perfect way to experience the beauty of Abel Tasman national park.
Our guides were the perfect mix of funny, friendly and knowledgeable. There are a handful of companies that offer a similar sort of trip, we chose this one from advice from a local, and have no regrets. Perfect way to spend a day.
