My partner and I got a day-hire kayak for 90pp. I couldn't recommend Abel Tasman Kayaks any higher. There was a thorough safety briefing before the day started and they kitted us out with all the equipment that we needed. Kayaking in the bays was great as well, lots of small private beaches that you can stop on, lots of wildlife (we saw a seal tearing through an octopus on the water!) and doing a loop around Adele or Fisherman's Island is very manageable. It was a bit difficult to see where we had to return to, so in the future I would clarify that before I leave. Jack was also great to us. Friendly, approachable, keen for a yarn and made the whole experience better! read less

Every time I requested something, I was always met with a “yes”. They were timely and very organized at the start of my trek managing multiple groups simultaneously. I was happy with the quality of their gear. I was even offered a much needed hot shower and the ability to recharge electronic devices upon return from my four day tramp. Great way to explore Abel tasmen! Many trip options but also can chop and change with ideas we did a 3 day kayak made into four with a beach day in between.

Great company - they teach you all the basics before you start out & go on a test run beforehand. Showers available at the end!

SIMPLY DO IT!! I can't heap enough praise on this full day trip. If the tides are on your side, start from Awaroa Bay and kayak past the seals to Shag Harbour. This place is not to be missed - a beautiful peaceful natural harbour that is just incredible to experience. On our trip the winds were right and we were able to join the kayaks together and sail to our next bay. And then the highlight for us - while resting at Mosquito Bay, we heard about 2 nearby orcas. There was a mad scramble to get out on the water to then have the delight of 2 orcas swimming past us. Superb.

Daryl was our guide and he was simply excellent and kept us well topped up with "home made" chocolate chip cookies. The service was brilliant all day and the provided lunch was delicious.

None of the other kayak companies go this far in to the National Park which meant we were alone for much of the trip.

As I said before... JUST DO IT!! read less
