Choose one of our walks

The Abel Tasman Coastal track is part of New Zealand’s great walk network. Its’ famous for its access to it’s many golden beaches and the native forest fringing the granite coastline. It is unique great walk in that every ‘section’ of the coastal track offers multiple opportunities to stop off at golden sand beaches and other coastal highlights, in fact certain sections of the coastal track are the stunning sweeping golden beaches. Unlike other Great Walks, you also have the unique benefit of taking a water taxi in and out to experience sections of the track at your own leisure, and to suit your own timetable.  It really is a park for all seasons and all people!  So from half day through to the full five day journey, there is really is something for everyone.

Walking in the park is generally broken into the following sections Marahau to Observation, Observation to Anchorage, Anchorage to Bark Bay, Bark Bay to Onetahhuti, Onetahuti to Awaroa and Awaroa to Totaranui.

Each section is roughly 2 – 4 hours of walking on a well formed track. We offer a number of independent walk only options which start with a scenic water taxi ride allowing you more time walking the section that you have choosen. If you have time, we recommend choosing our Three Day Classic Walk which covers the whole track, relax and recharge walking from Totaranui back to Marahau.

We understand sometimes it’s hard to choose between walking and kayaking so we have pieced together trips that offer both as an option. A trip like the Two Gods sees you exploring the Tonga Island Marine Reserve by kayak before exploring and walking the middle section of the coastal track or our rental kayak and walk options offer flexibility to experience the Abel Tasman by both land and sea, each trip highlights complementary sections of the park.

What our customers say

Great company - they teach you all the basics before you start out & go on a test run beforehand. Showers available at the end!

Originally I sighed up for a different longer Abel Tasman day tour but on the day of the tour the weather was changing and the wind was picking up, so I was offered a shorter kayaking and walking. And think it was thoughtful and responsible on the part of Abel Tasman Kayak company. The waters for sea kayaking was already pretty rough. Abel Tasman Kayak does a great job on... read more

I had a great tour with Abel Tasman Kayaks. All the staff I met at the base were great, and the guide for my kayaking - Gareth - was very friendly and informative. It was awesome that we got a ride on a tractor to get to the beach with the kayaks. The kayaking part of the tour was my favourite, Gareth gave some awesome commentary and stayed at the... read more

We kayak along the splendid Coast of Abel Tasman National park for over 2 hours then we stopped for lunch at the magnificent onetahuti beach. Daryl was our tour guide; he was really nice cool fun and let us stopped and take as many pictures as we wanted and explained us very well the history of the Abel national park .

It was very good and funny with Ian and molly. Ian has a lot of interesting knowledges about the flora and fauna of the island around this spot.

We had an amazing day out on the water, exploring the coast and Islands of the national park. Well worth the trip, our guide Micah was amazing with lots of information about the area. We did so well went also include Spilt Apple Rock. A very weary but happpy group got back to Marahau

Keep your 👀 eyes peeled for these guys around the park! At this time of the year, there are a lot of pups around.
Our guides provide loads of valuable tips as part of the rental briefing.
There are not many places in the world where you start your trip sitting in a boat traveling down the road. ❤️ launching from Marahau.
Where to next? ❤️ the options in the Abel Tasman.
Paddling in sync 🚣‍♂️ the perfect way to explore the Abel Tasman.
Happy Leap Day! Perhaps these kayakers are catching a glimpse of dolphins leaping on this special day? 🐬🛶
